whether to get a sofa and chair or a sectional.

I know, it seems trite but I sold Lazlo's favorite lounger. A black low to the ground Italian leather sectional. So low I couldn't rise out of it. I would slide onto the rug and then get myself up.

It needs to go in my family room. We're a cosy bunch so sitting together on a sectional is fine. Or should I get a sofa and a chair and a half and a large ottoman? Also, the family room is a bit small. One wall is our french doors, one wall is the tv, the wall the sofa/sectional would sit against has two narrow windows positioned to be on either side of the sofa, and the last 'wall' is the breakfast bar. In our largish home we all live in a 15x15 foot room.

I saw this back in April. I even ordered the cd of the show and re-discovered it today as I was driving for errands. So far I've only listened to the first 38 minutes, but oh how I needed to hear it.

One of the most beautiful parishes in St. Louis was on Gravois named for St. Francis de Sales. "Even the poor need a beautiful church" was the reason so much effort was put into it's original design.

I also have seen too many racist and blatent hatred signs focusing on Isreal/Jews/'Jewish Bankers" in Youtube videos and very little level-headed protesting at OWS.
I became aware that Code Pink didn't like Israel because of it's boycott of AHAVA a couple of months ago. There are more than a few videos of the Pink Coders running into shops protesting in a Guerrilla fashion all over North America and Brittan.

I found the boycott youtube videos because I was looking for information on Ahava and the dead sea minerals. I'm a big fan of bath salts for Cranky/Crabby Days.

Ahava is an Israeli company that makes beauty products. I first became familiar with them this year when I got a great deal on a large bottle of their body lotion. (Lazlo and I share basic stuff like body lotion and shampoo/conditioner, it has to be really benign in texture, ingredients and smell. The Ahava lotion fit the bill.)

It's a free country they can speak their minds. But, in speaking up it allows us to see where they stand on all sorts of issues.In the following video Code Pink is standing in solidarity with Occupy Wall Street.

But today I have a couple of my own:

- Found out a lovely church volunteer's husband has been suffering for months with a multitude of maladies. He's going into the hospital and probably hospice soon. This year I've lost neighbors and friends to death. Most of them were unexpected. It has been a tragic year for many people.

- A church friend whom I haven't seen for a great while was there this morning. Her face showed weariness so I asked her how things were. Well, to keep things brief, I'll just say that what started out as a sad family situation story, quickly developed into a 'denomic' one. The kind with inanimate objects moving by themselves.
I was not wanting to hear a story like that this morning.
Every couple of years I hear a story like that from someone I know. So I suggest getting out those St. Benedict Medals and the holy water because with the news events this year, I'm convinced there is evil prowling around.

More odd stories:
- Occupy Wall Street. Very little actual 'good' will come of it. I think we will see some of the 99% will pay with their blood eventually.   Whereas, the Lefties in my family wanted the Union Muscle to beat the crap out of TeaPartiers at Town Halls a couple of years ago.

- Florida real estate No, in my experience watching my neighborhood values continue to decline I don't see the 'bottom' yet.

- Clark Howard suggests Series I bonds over Savings accounts. How does that work in hyperinflation?

- Iran's plotting to kill Saudis on our soil. Is this really a distraction? Why didn't they try to kill them in Canada?    What with Canadians being the most beloved nationality in recent polls they'd never expect it on their soil.

- William Tapley, the Third Eagle of the Apocalypse. I think I'll just read Rick Salbato's The Ark of the Apocalypse.

- The retread on why should I care if Mitt is a Mormon, and what Mormons believe?     This reminds me of Al Smith's presidential run against Hoover covered in Ken Burns Prohibition series. Catholic Bashing!

- I had an initial crush on Mr. Cain, but after some reflection on the 999 plan and the fact that he's a Fed Reserve Insider/Supporter I am going back on the fence. Mass readings and Homily for Sunday Oct 9th

Today Fr. Ron at Our Lady of the Rosary pointed out that the Banquet takes place 'Here Now and in Heaven for us in the Future". Marx had called our Faith the Opiate of the masses because we had only focused on the 'future banquet'.

It is in clothing the naked, visiting the imprisoned and taking care of the least of these ourselves and not expecting our tax dollars through the Government to do so.

Our Wedding Garments are our Humble and Contrite and Converted Hearts.

A side note, my oldest Darling didn't like the design of the church building. And she didn't see anything but the clear glass windows. The enormous stained glass wall behind the altar had Francis Hooks Jesus with a man and a woman eating flat bread with him amid rolling Mediterranean hills. She didn't like that either. LOL.

The following takes place in Atlanta. Silencing Congressman John Lewis. Congressman Lewis stood up with others during the bailout and said "NO!"

So for that I liked him.

John Wayne and Josephine

She looks a little like Juliette Binoche. Josephine appears 'timeless'. I know her hairstyle is of the period, but something about her face seems so "today". Next to her is a very young Loretta Young who is very much a girl of 1933.

Lazlo told me the week following September 11 2001 that it probably wouldn't be airplanes used in the next attack. Billions of dollars later spent on screening still brought us the Christmas Day underwear bomber. His guardian angel made sure he just got a nasty burn and a long stay at a Correctional Facility.

And there have been other more horrific terrorist actions since 9/11/2001:

And the list could just go on with all the injustice and terror happening around the world. Usually, ultimately, it is children who suffer the most.

And, yes even when we have to strike back or hunt down terrorists, little children suffer also.

It would be nothing to taint our food at a packing house. After watching Food Inc. and seeing just how revolting the levels of e coli are already in hamburger and how difficult it would be to 'recall' if it was tainted. Guess what happened this week and got me thinking?
This past tuesday our phone, internet and tv were knocked out.
I turned on the radio and didn't hear of any major outage or emergency. The sky's were clear.

Before I could find out the 'reason' the tv, phone and internet weren't working my cell phone was not calling out. It was reading "Emergency Use" only. I ran over to the neighbors and their cell phone on a different provider wasn't working either!

I was starting to get a little anxious over this situation.

The flood of 93 convinced me that nobody should be living in a floodplain. Not even the 500 year floodplain.

Well, a few weeks ago my mother told me that the Chesterfield valley, in a suburb of St. Louis has been built up with all sorts of 'glitzy' stores. And that some people are living there.

What a bunch of nonsense.

Now, watching once again, beach front properties get washed away, we are going to rebuild someone's 'lifestyle'.

If you want to live on the water consider the Missouri Clubhouse plan. Build it cheap, fill it with hose-able furniture and keep your precious items limited to the size of a couple of plastic tubs. It appears that even poodles and other 'allergy-friendly' doggies are too much for us to tolerate.

After visiting shelters and various breeds and then researching even more, I'd only be setting us up for heartache when we'd have to re-home our darling dog.

I saw a link to this over at the Prodigal Daughters blog.

My youngest has been struggling with the effects of the Mono she caught back in Spring and the specialist suggested we get a juicer. Even an inexpensive one like Jack LaLaine's was just fine she said. Beets and Apples would really help beef up her immunity we were told.

So I bought one at JCPenney's with a 20% coupon right before my mother and brother arrived and today is the first day I've had the opportunity to set it up and get juicing.

I have to admit I couldn't recognize what a beet actually looked like. I spent an hour washing the dirt off of them and am going to request Lazlo plant a few of them in our garden.

Now, I'm thinking I too walk around with a mental picture of me at 26 and not the me of today. You know that 'me'. Svelte and effortlessly 'rested'.

Numbers don't lie. My scale and my blood work are telling me "If you don't do something soon. You'll be on medication for the rest of your life. And then you die."

Oh, I haven't looked rested since 1999.

Maybe I should just pucker up and drink the green slurry of goodness.

I already eat salads. (No, not doused with dressing, cheese or bacon. Mostly just the greenies.)

Update : Looking for a new best friend

I took the darlings to the Animal Shelter since two scruffy Lhasa Apso's appeared on their list this weekend. While there we met a very nice 'foster father' to a spiffy little Jack Russell named Buster. He encouraged me to take him home for the weekend. I had my doubts since allergies are an issue with my Lazlo.

Buster's foster father said he shed very little and his father had dog allergies and was fine with all the Jack's he had as he grew up.

Well, Buster was a darling, sweet, intelligent, and calm Jack Russell and the Darlings begged. So I gave in.

For being a small dog, he was athletic and that appealed to Lazlo.

We now know my oldest darling has doggie allergies, and so do I. Her large eyes had swollen to slits by morning and my mouth itched like I had eaten a bowl of oysters.

We had Buster less than 24 hours and I had to take him back.

Crying nearly all the way I drove him back to his foster family.

Oh, I had spent the better part of Saturday night and Sunday morning looking for allergy relief. Sprays for Dander, even read about adding fish oil to his diet. But, we needed immediate relief. And I couldn't even locate the Dander spray on any local Pet Store shelf.

Also, it was best for Buster to be returned sooner than later for less stress to his system. If we couldn't find a
solution, we'd have to give him back eventually.

You should have seen how excited he was to see his 'daddy' again.

That photo was taken when he first arrived at the shelter. His foster father got him healthy and gorgeous. He also knows how to sit, roll over and is excellent with my darlings. He also needs to be the ONLY Dog in a house. Issues prior to his foster care have made him dislike other dogs. Having spent that little time with him, I noticed he pretty much loved sitting on the sofa with us. Something I never thought I'd allow. But, considering Buster was a darling dog, I had to let him. (And I don't normally give in to begging or whining, and twice in one day I did!)

Looking for a new best friend

I've been looking at local shelters for a new best friend.

Allergies and children who don't like hyper dogs have limited my choices.

Please say a little prayer for us as we try to find good doggies that need a forever home.

I fell in love with a lovely Basset Hound, but her dander and shedding wasn't an option. (I'm praying that her forever family finds her soon.)

We are considering : Poodles, Bischons, small Norwich/Norfolk Terriers, Calm Chihuahuas, Pointers and Beagles. (My husband doesn't like Schnauzers.)

If allergies weren't an issue Any Good Dog would do. Pit Bulls and Rottweilers are really really popular here in Tampa and there were more than a dozen I would have happily given a home.

I just found out today that my old neighbors moved back "North*", letting a friend move into their house. They're letting the friends live there rent free until the bank "takes the house" and their credit is finally trashed. I've seen this more than once in the past couple years. In fact a few of my neighbors in my new neighborhood are living 'rent-free' while the owners have tried to short-sell the homes.

This is a form of wealth transfer. The Tenants are getting the use, or a form of wealth, free. If they were smart they would save the rental money. MOST people won't. The 'owners' are willing to give up their credit. Everything will cost them more. They are all also believing it will be 2-4 years before the bank catches up. Right now, the banks might just change their time-lines, and start the foreclosure process quicker.

The new renters at the old neighborhood are former neighbors who said 6 years ago that it was "only smart to get the money out of our house". They lost their house and have been renting for the past 5 years.

I wonder if sometimes if Psalm 37 and Psalm 73 was written for these days.

We are living in interesting times.

Humility by Fr. Corapi

I have a CD title Humility, spiritual nuclear weapon by the former Fr. Corapi*.

I listened a while ago and I don't want it anymore. It's very good, and when Fr. Corapi starts making some new tapes, I may consider getting some. (I am very ambivalent. Mostly because of all the chatter. I'm going to actively NOT read anymore on this subject until something official comes out.)

In the meantime I'll read some St. Mary deMonfort when I need a shot in the arm for humility.

I am offering it to the first person who sends me a request via the comments.

If I didn't think Fr. Corapi's CD was excellent, I wouldn't be offering it to anyone.)

When I was a little bitty government documents librarian, I'd get my kicks looking at the Consumer Information Catalog.

Just for fun I looked up the http://ftc.gov/MoneyMatters website listed on a bookmark I found at the local Wally World Customer Service Counter. (It's okay, in a rather bland way.)

Yoga and Christianity

I had used yoga in my youth. And, at the time, I had been involved in smatterings of all sorts of new agey stuff.
After looking at the Catholic Answers Forum entries on Yoga, I'm still tending to side on the side of caution.

I tend to be hyper cautious of anything that is even slightly new agey. And, honestly I remember taking yoga at the YMCA (The C stands for Christian). It was still hokey. Lots of 'meditative' talk about visualizing colors and even Chakras.

No thanks.

We even cancelled our local Y membership after so many other non-kosher stuff went on. (I hope it's improved since I would like to sign the darlings up for some sports programs.)

I'm interested in Praise Moves and WholyFit.

Here Laura Monica or Wholyfit is being interviewed at 100 Huntley Street. (That would be a Christian Program in Canada.)

I'd love to hear your insight into this topic.

BTW, seeing some of the Denver Airport Art, I have to say the 'Storm-trooper' is weird.

I thought American Public Art should be produced by Americans, and should be thought provoking. I really loved the arts produced in the WPA programs. Oh, I know it smatters of 'socialism'. But, I really love regional art. For instance, here in Florida, at the Tampa Airport, we had a series of 'Turtle' sculptures that were decorated by local artists.

Local.

Artists.

I do think Public/Government Buildings should be beautiful and more importantly Functional. Public Art in Public Spaces should be produced by locals. And local themes, local history, and art that supports the local population would be nice.

I'm not even going to discuss Catholic Churches. That's a completely different subject. Although local Catholic artists probably ought to be encouraged to produce some Art for their diocese. Maybe that could be their time, talent, and treasure the rest of us are encouraged to give to our Parish and Diocese.

I can think of only a few groups who seem to be 'allowed' to be ridiculed in our society. (The obese, Mormons, and Catholics in particular)

I was as a child raised to be kind, never to comment on someone's weight, or ask about a curious defect. (Like a cleft palate scar.)

Lord help you if a very obviously pregnant lady came around. My mother wouldn't allow one question unless the lady had announced her condition.

Now, seven years after my last baby, I'm still heavy. I had never been heavy, ever before. With the exception of briefly being slightly overwieght right before a growth spurt in highschool.

I am amazed at people, including other 'heavy' women, who open their mouths and let the comments fly.

I am in amazement that the "new' construction is going to come with such a hefty price tag.

As a family we took a trip to St. Anne de Beaupre a couple of May's ago.

My darlings still talk about what a beautiful church it is. It is a fitting place to celebrate Our Good Lord!

Now, honestly, I don't mind attending mass in modest surroundings.

If that is what is affordable to the community.

I am very interested in a legitimate mass. (I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure when I've been sitting through an illicit one. Or one that is very disrespectful.)
